The Brittany Murphy Foundation is a foundation in name alone — because according to state and federal records, it does not exist.

The foundation — launched by Brittany’s widower Simon Monjack and her mom Sharon Murphy — has been touted as a charity dedicated to arts education for children, and has been soliciting funds through a website since last month.

TMZ has discovered, however, the foundation is not registered as a charity with the IRS or the state of California, as required by law.

The California Secretary of State’s office told TMZ there are no records for The Brittany Murphy Foundation. The state Attorney General’s office also has no record of the organization as a nonprofit group — and the IRS says the foundation has not filed for a non-profit license.

The son of Academy Award winner Michael Douglas has been arrested once again — this time in the Big Apple for getting in the middle of a deal to sell an eye-popping pile of crystal meth, law-enforcement sources said yesterday.

The 30-year-old sometime-actor/sometime-DJ was busted on July 28 at the Gansevoort Hotel in the Meatpacking District by a DEA task force, the sources said.

He had been staying at the hotel for some time in a room rented by his father, and when authorities barged in, they found the place a mess and Cameron Douglas “very strung out,” according to the sources.

An informant had told the investigators that Douglas — grandson of Kirk Douglas — was the middleman in a deal to move a half-pound of crystal meth from California to New York to sell.

NEW YORK/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – David Letterman apologized on Monday for making a sexually charged joke about one of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s teenage daughters, as a group of Palin supporters planned a rally demanding the late-night TV show host be fired.

“I told a joke that was beyond flawed, and my intent is completely meaningless compared to the perception” of the joke by viewers, he said during Monday’s taping of “Late Night with David Letterman,” according to a transcript given to Reuters.

“And since it was a joke I told, I feel that I need to do the right thing here and apologize for having told that joke,” he said. “It’s not
your fault that it was misunderstood, it’s my fault.”

Last Tuesday, Letterman joked that New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez had “knocked up” the former vice-presidential nominee’s daughter during a family trip to a baseball game.

The 28-year-old heiress — who is being sued for $8 million for failing to promote her 2006 comedy “Pledge This!” — was asked by lawyers during a pre-trial hearing in Miami Thursday if she keeps a diary for business meetings.

“I just press my name and Google it and see,” she told the court.

Asked by lawyers about her calls from the producers, she testified: “With my phone I never know, because I lose it all the time. I probably get a new cellphone, like, every two weeks.”

When shown a copy of her cell phone bill, she replied: “I’ve never seen a phone bill of mine in my life.”

NEW YORK (Reuters) - TV star Kiefer Sutherland plans to turn himself into New York City police on Thursday, a police spokesman said, after media reports the actor had headbutted another man.

The spokesman, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the star of hit Fox television show “24″ planned to turn himself in to a police station in the Manhattan neighborhood of Soho.

Police said Wednesday Sutherland would likely face a minor assault charge.

Several media outlets reported that Sutherland is accused of headbutting fashion designer Jack McCollough at a Monday night party after an annual costume gala held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
